Spring 2020, Postcards
This piece is a series of postcards mixing the mediums of printmaking, linoleum cuts, painting, drawing, integration of text and collage.
This piece was created in many layers, giving it depth and a tanglible texture for the viewer to experience. The color palette and imagery are inspired by nostalgia, and fond memories of the artist.
The main inspiration for this piece, is artist Ruth Laxson. She was Emma's Great Aunt, and an artist who created the same postcard-like pieces using printmaking and collage. These are Emma's interpretation and response to her works, as they both seemed to share the same aesthetic and creative mind.
As well, the reason why Emma creates art is because it pleases her, and she hopes it can also bring joy to others. It’s the inner workings of her brain that she loves to sprawl across different mediums.
The *why* for this project is mainly revolving around aesthetic ideas and thoughts Emma has had that she has yet to express to a viewers eye, and that she wants to express. Emma has gotten inspiration from many things in life, previous works, other human beings, and literature.
She'd like to think of this piece as a mix of all of those things, her brain, and some paper.
